Not building a model railway, a day away to the Great Central Railway.

It’s always good to take a break, with a little time to spare and wishing to get out and about I wanted to see one of my favourite railways. Heading over the the Great Central Railway is a super way to stimulate the railway interest. Soon I will find some time to get back to the model railway and enjoy some modelling time so I can finally run some trains.

A big step to changing the look of the layout. Adding to the landscape but the addition of grass and trees transforms the whole model railway. I used Primo models trees and green scenes ‘spring’ 4mm static grass. I hope you enjoyed the video!

Join me as we build up the final building for the layout. A great kit which was kindly made for me by Bunters yard called Maplin Mill. Building this model railway shunting yard has been a lot of fun and is feeling like we are making great progress. You can get one from Bunters yard with 10% off using code : Maplin/NEAL Go check out buntersyard.co.uk/products/low-relief-factory-maplin-mill-oo-ga...

Making progress on the model railway in small steps is good progress still, having many topics to work on the layout i end up not doing as much as I’d like. This episode we do a couple of simple things to change the look of the scene. Follow the series in its bite size chunks as we enjoy building this shunting yard layout.

The buildings are a big part of the model railway layout. I picked up from Bunters Yard these vangaurd warehouse ends which have finally given purpose to the far end of the layout. buntersyard.co.uk/products/vanguard-low-relief-industrial-building Also from Skytrex I picked up their railway sleeper platform section which I thought were the perfect fit for collecting goods from visiting vans and...

    I'm enjoying watching this one again, I watched when it was released but your videos have a lovely relaxed style to them so I tend to rewatch them often. Definitely a nice local show to visit next year, I'm finding that I enjoy the smaller shows more these days, especially shows at heritage railways - that's a trend I'm very happy to support. Hope you and yours are well, all the best and thanks for sharing your hobby.

    It's great to see you've made another video. Im also using your layout as a basis to a layout. Its been a long time. I am changing to 00 as i previously did N gauge, and that's been sat in the loft space for over 23 years.😊

    Great video fantastic value loco you bought and with your detailing you made it look so good and easy to do. the prototype video was really good with its variety of freight stock it was pulling round. i loved the powdered weathering you did too it gives it a very subtle blend of shades. by the way my favourite piece of rolling stock whether in model form or prototype is that larger or longer brake van that we saw in the video. Thank you for showing us your outstanding modelling advice and help with improving our own model railway stock collecting and servicing etc etc. It revitalised my own interest railway modelling that comes and goes but never ever fully leaves my fascination and interest. thank you so much.

    I nice video showing the museum! I have yet to visit it since i live quite far away from our capital. Also that big nice diesel you were talking about was PKP class ST44 ,,Gagarin". Its esentialy a soviet M-62 locomotive with polish ,,bucket" headlights and safety systems. We imported over 1000 of them. Those locos were famous from their huge power and torque so big that they were laso known as ,,railgrinders". Althought they are old and not very fuel efficent it is still hard to find a locomotive so cheap and numerous yet so powerfull to pull freight across the country and thats why many many of them are still in service. One you saw is the number 001 and it was the first example of this locomotive in Poland and one that was tested by PKP and accepted into service. Quite recently they restored it althought its not in running condition from what i know.

    I live 5 minutes away in Kingsthorpe and had no idea it was on or I would have attended, if there is another then more advertising from them would be welcome, I worked on the line in the 80,s and 90,s and organisation was not always perfect, we we're working on the Boughton extension then! I often view your videos and would have liked to have met you. Still I look forward to that in the future.

    Great video and great little builds. Just a quick ine, what are they made out of? Looks like MDF or maybe hardboard? My layout is in a shed so wondering if they will cope with a little damp air in the winter.

    I purchased a couple of 3v / 12v power distribution boards from a certain Chinese website - 24 output ports on each unit and selectable for either 12 or 3v for the unit, power supply taken from my DCC controller. for the 6v LEDs I used a 6v power supply from the same supplier connected to a chocolate block for connecting the LEDs. Made using the low voltage LEDs very easy.

    I do love the idea of the interiors being pictures you see through the windows. It lookscreally effective. I know Scalescenes do full interiors, wallpaper, carpets etc that you just print out. Cant wait to see it working and the lighting really does add that extra something.

Often the odd channel will install a yard lamp or fuelling point light, but nice to see the different varieties of lighting available to help with making a personal choice. I like the interiors you did, they look nice.

    @chrisburton9645 Місяць тому

    12:23 LEDS will absorb 0.6V approx each of the supply voltage, so if tailed together in series (one after the other) you have to add up these 0.6V to allow you to find what's REMAINING of the supply voltage-left-for-the-resistor-to-deal-with. Choosing the resistor value is a process of deciding how much current you want the leds to have (= brightness) and dividing the voltage-left-for-the-resistor-to-deal-with by that current Ohms=Volts/Amps. This will result in a lower value resistor then the one attached to just one LED - so you then have to source it . . . If you accidentally connect your LEDs without a resistor then the very low internal resistance of the battery is all that's limiting current to a safe level for the LEDs - which it can't do because it's too small, so the LEDS burn out. It's simpler to connect them all in parallel and leave the resistors one to a LED. This also means that if ( prototypically ) a LED doesn't work, that doesn't affect the others . . . Also putting in series means you have to connect the output of one LED to the input of the next - which is counter intuitive because the insulation colours are different. It's good that you kept this in because it's so easy to burn out LEDs, so you will have helped at least a few others avoid this in the future. Your lights look great anyway, so good result in the end . . .

    I also made interiors for some of my buildings, I couldn't find exactly what I wanted so I made use of AI to generate the images I needed. This turned out to be quite the discovery of the pros and cons of the tool. I needed a flat interior for above a shop. I specifically did not want any windows, even if I said do not add windows the AI on several sites still insisted on adding them. the shop below looked fantastic though 😀

    To make overly bright LEDs seem a more natural colour simply place a piece of masking tape over it. It diffuses the light and makes it a warmer colour.
